Please Welcome Best Selling Author Suzan Tisdale

Today, I am honored to share an interview with Suzan Tisdale.

I fell in love with Suzan’s debut novel Laiden’s Daughter (The Clan MacDougall Series).
I have her to thank, indirectly, for Highland Solution. I loved Laiden’s Daughter and when I learned that Suzan self-published, I decided to finally write one of the stories floating around in my head. I thought if I couldn’t get a publisher interested, I could try publishing myself. Thankfully I did get a publisher, because now that I realize just how much work is involved I’m not sure I could have done it.

Suzan’s newest release, Rowan’s Lady (The Clan Graham Series)
is one of the books featured in my Christmas Giveaway (see my Events page for details on how to enter).

Do you have other works in process?
ALWAYS! Yes, I’m currently working on my sixth novel. It is titled Frederick’s Queen, Book Two of the Clan Graham Series.

Who will enjoy your book?
My readers range in age from 14 to 87, women and men. I blend mystery and intrigue with romance. My books are considered ‘clean’ so grandma doesn’t have to be embarrassed to read them. They have passion, but it’s a cleaner, more humorous approach.

Did you have input into the cover art? If so did it turn out as you had hoped?
I am an indie author so yes, I have total input on all my cover art. My cover artist is Carrie with Seductive Musings and she does lovely, phenomenal work.

Do you have a favorite author? If so who?
Favorite? That is a very long list. If you ask if there is an author who I idolize then I have to say Julie Garwood.

What authors do you think have most influenced you?
Laurin Wittig, Carmen Cain, Tanya Anne Crosby and Julie Garwood.

Note from Ceci: I too love Julie Garwood and both Laurin Wittig and Tanya Anne Crosby are featured authors in my Christmas Giveaway!

What draws you to your genre?
The history, days gone by that will never return.

If you could instantly transport yourself to anywhere in the world right now where would you go and why?
Scotland. First I’d hit libraries in Stirling and Edinburgh then a pub.

If you could inherit a comfortable home in any city in the world that would be yours to use but not sell, where would it be?
A castle in Scotland…pretty much anywhere in Scotland.

If you could have been the author of any single book already written, which one would it be?
The Wedding, by Julie Garwood.

Note from Ceci: One of my favorites too!

If you could eat one food in any quantity for the rest of your life without suffering ill effects what would it be?
Chocolate and potatoes.

If you had to eat one meal morning, noon and night for the rest of your life without worrying about nutrition what would you pick? Mashed potatoes and chocolate cake.

If you could host a dinner party with any four famous people (living or dead) who would it be?
Thomas Jefferson, Julie Garwood, Albert Einstein and Tom Mison.

If you won the lottery what is the first thing you would do?
By each of my kids a house, my grandkids a pony and then a castle in Scotland.

If you were given $5000 to spend in only one store, what store would you spend it in?
Berners!

If you could permanently eliminate one pet peeve, what would it be and why?
People who yell at their kids.

What are three words your friends might use to describe you?
Crazy, funny and creative.

What are three words your family might use to describe you?
Nuts, Endora-like and Nuts.

What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment, personally or professionally?
Professionally? Being able to make a living as an author. Personally? Having three great kids!

What would the person who knows you best say is your best character traits?
My heart – I tend to be a giver.

Tell me at least one little known fact about you.
I used to be horribly, painfully shy!

Note from Ceci: Me too.

Is there anything you would like your readers to know about you?
That I could NOT do this without them. I appreciate each and every one of them. My readers are beautiful (or handsome as the case may be). I love hearing from my readers. I write for them.

On Amazon – Rowan’s Lady (The Clan Graham Series)

Scotland, 1354

He built impenetrable walls around his heart….

The Black Death showed no mercy when it took Rowan Graham’s beautiful, young wife. With his clan nearly decimated, his heart torn to shreds, he is left to raise his newborn daughter alone. Rowan tries to keep the promises he made to Kate on her deathbed, save for one: He is unable to give his heart to another.

She has built walls around her own…

Lady Arline is forced into yet another arranged marriage — loveless and lonely. Behind Garrick Blackthorn’s good looks lies a cruel, vindictive man. She wants nothing more than her marriage to end so that she might gain the freedom she has longed for.

Fate will bring those walls tumbling down….

Just before her marriage comes to a bitter and ugly end, her cruel husband kidnaps a sweet, innocent child. Arline does not realize the child belongs to a man from her past, a man who has haunted her dreams for more than seven years, until the night he comes to rescue his daughter.

Rowan Graham is surprised to learn that his enemy’s wife is a woman he met but for a few short moments seven years earlier when dark times had fallen across Scotland. The same woman who had helped insure the freedom of his foster father and brother has been risking her life to care for his daughter.

Fate brings them together…but others are determined to pull them apart.

I think Suzan’s covers are gorgeous too. She credits Carrie, with Seductive Musings, for the beautiful work.

Thank you all so much! 😀 Yes, I loved this cover too, and Ceci is correct, Carrie is the only cover artist I’ll use. 😀

  8. Patricia Barraclough says:

I have not yet read any of your books, Susan, but that is going to change. Medieval Highland stories were the first romances I read. They got me interested in reading romance and have become my favorite. There is something special about the time and place, and the strength necessary to survive and thrive. Best of luck with your future writing career. I will be looking for your books.
I agree with the others about the covers. Very nice.

Hi Patricia, Thanks for stopping by. Sue-Ellen will be featured on my blog tomorrow (Monday) so you will want to come back! I think you will love Suzan Tisdale’s books and I wish you luck in the drawing.

Barraclough isn’t a particularly common name so I have to ask, are you related in any way to Eleanor Barraclough, a retired Kindergarten teacher in NJ?

      Ceci

    • suzantisdale says:

Awww! Thank you, Patricia! Sorry I didn’t respond sooner. I’ve been ‘in the zone’ working on book 6. 😀 I do hope you enjoy my stories. 😀

  9. Suzan is such a fun person to follow! Always has me smiling through her posts. I have Laiden’s Daughter in my tbr and just pulled it to the top of my list. I’ll be starting it in a few days.

I agree about Tanya Anne Crosby and Julie Garwood. They were some of the first authors I found when I started reading 20 years ago. All time favorites. 🙂

  10. Cathy P says:

Hi, Suzan and Ceci! Suzan, you are a new author for me. Loved the excerpt from ROWAN’S LADY. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  11. Barb R says:

Suzan, I have several of your books on my kindle as well as my ‘wish list’ which ‘grows’ every day – looking forward to reading your stories!
